Police attend Iveson Primary School to tackle dangerous parking and abusive parents

Officers attended Iveson Primary School in LS16 this morning, with two teams outside the school gates during the school run.

Police said they had received reports of parents parking dangerously - "putting children's lives at risk".

The force also said a small minority of parents had been abusive to members of staff who had to explain the offence of parking on school zig-zags.

Fixed penalty notices will be issued to anyone police catch causing obstruction outside schools, the force added.

The patrol was not exclusive to the school and further patrols will take place across the North West of Leeds according to police.

In a social media post, West Yorkshire Police said: "After further reports of parents failing to park safely outside Iveson Primary School in LS16, officers from Woodhouse Lane's Teams 2 & 3 attended yesterday.

"We had received reports of not only parents parking dangerously (putting children’s lives at risk) but also a small minority being abusive to members of staff, who tried to explain that it is an offence to park on the school Zig-Zags.

"Positive action including fixed penalty notices will be issued to anyone we see causing an obstruction outside schools. Our main priority is the safety of the children and we would hope that all parents feel the same.

"We are pleased to report that on this occasion, we had no cause to approach any vehicles and everyone we saw was parked safely. These patrols will continue throughout North West Leeds and are not exclusive to one school."
