Police intelligence led to Lee Turner's IP address being monitored and in August 2018 they raided his former home at Gissing Road, Lupset, Wakefield, where they arrested him and seized a laptop, a mobile phone and a memory card.

Leeds Crown Court heard the 45-year-old, now of Carlyle Crescent, Castleford, initially refused to comment when interviewed but after the horrific images and videos were discovered on the devices he made a full confession.

He admitted three counts of making indecent images of children between the age of six months and 15 years.

These included 13 videos and 1,992 images categorised as Class C, three videos and 119 images in Class B and six videos and 84 images in the most serious Class A category.

These involved the rape of young children and "at least one" image involved an animal, said prosecutor Holly Clegg.

Ms Clegg said there was clear evidence that the abused children were in pain and that Turner had gone searching for abuse images.

During interview he admitted being aroused by the images but said he had no interest in children.

Andrew Semple, mitigating, said that Turner's relationship with his partner had broken down and that he was back living with his parents.

He is also unemployed and has health issues, including depression and diabetes, and has no previous convictions.

Mr Semple added that Turner was a loner who had "taken steps" by enrolling in a course to address his behaviour.

Judge Simon Phillips QC said: "It's a sad state of affairs to see somebody before the court for the first time but this is serious offending.

"You have made efforts to address your offending."

Turner was jailed him for eight months, suspended for two years, and told to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.

He must also take part in a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement days designed to address his offending behaviour.
