New Leeds Crown Court murder trial date set over death of 90-year-old man found with stab wounds at flat

A new trial date has been set for a man accused of murdering a 90-year man at his home in West Yorkshire.

Glyndwr Wayman was due to go on trial yesterday (April 21) over the death of Nathaniel Suggitt.

Mr Suggitt, known as Terry, was found with stab wounds at his flat on Love Lane Terrace, Pontefract, on October 5 last year.

Wayman is also charged with an unrelated robbery offence said to have occurred on September 13 on Halfpenny Lane in Pontefract.

Wayman, 49, of Love Lane Terrace, Pontefract, denies both charges.

The trial could go ahead due to the decision to put all jury trials in England and Wales on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic.Wayman appeared before Leeds Crown Court via a video link from Armley prison for a brief hearing to fix a new date for a trial.

The trial was listed for September 7 and is expected to last eight days.

Wayman was told he will remain in custody until his trial.

Judge Geoffrey Marson QC said: "There is clearly good and sufficient cause to extend the custody time limit by reason of the pandemic."

West Yorkshire Police released CCTV footage of Mr Suggitt in a supermarket in an attempt to trace his movements before his death.
