Neglectful young Leeds mum labelled 'pathetic' and jailed after running out of excuses
Mum completed tiny amount of unpaid work requirement
A young mum who was spared custody for ill treating her child has been jailed after failing to work off her debt.
The 21-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the child’s identity, was given a two-year suspended sentence in June last year after admitting a charge of assault, ill-treat, neglect or abandon a child or young person to cause unnecessary suffering or injury.
But she was returned to Leeds Crown Court over her “pathetic” efforts to complete unpaid work and rehabilitation days.

The court heard she had completed just 12 of the 140 hours of unpaid work in a year, and just one of the 15 rehabilitation days with probation.
It was heard that the woman was forced to flee her address in recent months due to domestic violence issues.
But Judge Neil Clark said the Leeds woman’s efforts were “pathetic”.
He reminded her it was a “very serious” case of neglect of her child and added: “You were only 19 and you were, to an extent, vulnerable.
“I told you if you breached the order you would go into custody. It’s the second time you have breached it.
“Ultimately, I do not think you will do this order. You are producing the same explanations time and time again.”
He activated 16 months of her jail sentence.
