Morley drivers fined after speeding more than 20mph over limit in areas where 'young children live and play'

Police have fined several drivers during speeding checks in Leeds.

On Wednesday evening, officers from the south Leeds policing team patrolled various locations in the Morley area.

'Several' drivers were given fines for going over the 30mph limit on Magpie Lane and police said that the majority of those ticketed were local residents living on the Bird estate.

More tickets were also issued on Asquith Avenue - also a 30mph road.

Police said that some of the caught drivers were driving in excess of 50mph and that this is 'unacceptable' especially in or approaching residential areas where 'young children live and play.

Officers pleaded with residents to keep their speed down.

The south Leeds policing team revealed what had happened on social media: "***Speeding in Morley***

"This evening, officers attended at various locations within the Morley area.

"Several drivers were issued fixed penalty tickets for speeding on Magpie Lane (the majority of these drivers were local residents who live on the Bird estate)

"Several tickets were also issued on Asquith Avenue. Both of these locations are 30mph.

"Some drivers were driving in excess of 50+ mph. This is unacceptable especially in or approaching residential areas where young children live and play.

"Please keep speeds down."
