A man who carried out a knife-point robbery on a vulnerable man then burgled his home with a teenage accomplice has been locked up for more than three years.

Gavin O'Brien and Jack McCredie targeted the victim on the Leeds Liverpool Canal towpath on April 4 last year.

Leeds Crown Court heard O'Brien, 21, was wearing a balaclava when he approached the victim shortly after he left his home and punched him in the face.

O'Brien then took out a knife and tried to stab the victim as he tried to get away.

O'Brien demanded money and the victim handed over £4 from his pocket.

McCredie, aged 16 at the time of the offence, then went into the victim's home with O'Brien.

O'Brien pulled out a machete when then victim approached the pair as they left.

O'Brien, of Fairfield Hill, Bramley, pleaded guilty to robbery and burglary.

He was sent to custody for three years and seven months.

McCredie was given a two-year sentence, suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work and told he must part part in the 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

The Recorder of Leeds, Judge Guy Kearl QC, told McCredie he had to take account of the fact that he was a youth at the time of the offending.

He warned the teenager that he would would be locked up if he committed a further offence during the period of the suspended sentence.
