Man stumbles upon armed police raid in Leeds city centre

A man on his morning walk was ushered away by police after stumbling upon armed officers during a raid on the outskirts of Leeds city centre.

Joshua, who did not want to give his last name, came across a large cordoned-off area in Macaulay Street, in the Mabgate area of Leeds city centre, just before 8am today (Thursday).

He said: "I accidentally turned straight into it and pretty much had guns in my face.

"The police officers looked to be pointing their guns towards one of the flat tower blocks opposite on Maclaulay Street.

"They had a very large area that is cordoned off."

Joshua, who lives nearby, said there were multiple police cars and vans and armed police dressed in black

He added: "I was simply on my morning walk to get my steps in - you know, keeping active during all of this."

Police were raiding a commercial premises and were being supported by armed officers.

There were no arrests.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Shortly before 7.30am today, a warrant was executed at commercial premises in Macaulay Street, Leeds, supported by armed officers.

"The premises was cleared without incident.

"It relates to an ongoing investigation by another force.”
