It happened at about 12.15am on Tuesday, September 15 at the junction of Roundhay Road and Spencer Place.

A silver Vauxhall Astra crashed into a 39-year-old pedestrian.

The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment.

He is in a serious condition.

The driver of the car fled the scene.

The car was later found set on fire in Harehills Avenue.

A 35-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drug driving, failing to stop after an accident and arson.

He remains in custody.
