Man hit by vehicle after street fight involving 'machetes and baseball bats' in Leeds

A man suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle during a street brawl in Beeston at lunchtime yesterday (Thursday).

Police are investigating the serious assault, which happened at around 12.30pm at the junction of Fulham Street and Greenmount Street.

Officers received reports of people in the street armed with weapons and that a man had been struck by a vehicle.

A 25-year-old man was found with serious injuries to his head and lower body before being taken to hospital.

He was then arrested in connection with the incident.

Hunslet and Riverside ward councillor Paul Wray posted online: "The police have updated me on an incident which took place this lunch time.

"It involved a vehicle followed by a fight where machetes and baseball bats were used.

"Police CID are investigating and one male has been arrested on suspicion of affray.

"They believe this was a targeted attack and there is no wider threat to the public."

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Enquiries are taking place to establish the full circumstances and the individuals involved.

"Work is also taking place to identify a vehicle, which is believed to have left the scene in the direction of Greenmount Street.

"Anyone with information that could further assist police or any witnesses, should contact the non- emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111."
