Man danced in street with machete, fought with police in brambles and behaved erratically with mop during lockdown drug binge

Miroslav Lavicka was locked up for 18 months for three separate incident over ten days in April this year.

Leeds Crown Court heard police were contacted by residents in Grantley Street, Wakefield, over concerns that Lavicka was behaving erratically outside his home.

Graham O'Sullivan, prosecuting, said Lavicka was shouting loudly at his dog and going in and out of the property on April 9.

An officer attended and spoke to Lavicka about not abiding by lockdown rules which were in force at the time.

After the officer left, Lavicka went back out into the street holding a knife and machete.

He was then seen dancing as he held the weapons.

The defendant went to the end of the street and lodged the two weapons into the side of a lamp post.

Some resident were distressed by his behaviour and feared for their safety.

Police returned and arrested the 46-year-old..

When interviewed he told officers he had the weapons to cut grass.

The defendant assaulted two police officers the following day as he was about to be driven home from the police station where he had been in custody.

Mr O'Sullivan said Lavicka removed his t-shirt and ran into the road outside the police station.

Two officers went to restrain him as they feared for his safety.

Lavicka grabbed hold of one of the officers and they fell into some dense brambles.

He continued to struggle as he resisted being placed in handcuffs.

Lavicka was released on bail but police were called to his home again on April 19.

Residents reported how he was in an agitated state holding a mop in the street.

Lavicka confronted officers when they arrived.

He removed his shirt and challenged one of the officers to a 'one-on-on' fight..

A taser was used on him as he was arrested.

Lavicka, of Grantley Street, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a bladed article, two of assaulting an emergency worker and threatening behaviour.

Lavicka has no previous convictions in the UK but has served prison sentences in the Czech Republic, in his home country.

The court heard the offending took place when Lavicka returned to abusin amphetamines and alcohol as he struggle to obtain medication he needed during lockdown.
