Man arrested after serious sex attack under bridge in Leeds and road still closed

Police were called out at about 3.55am on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25, after the incident under a bridge on Old Run Road, near the Engine pub.

The force described the area as Belle Isle.

A man approached a woman and assaulted her before making off from the scene, police said.

The incident happened between 12.45am and 1.13am.

A 25-year-old man has now been arrested.

A police spokesman said: "Enquiries are ongoing this morning following a report of an attempted serious sexual assault in the Belle Isle area of Leeds.

"Police were called at about 3.55am this morning ( 25/ 5 ) to a report of an attempted serious sexual assault under a bridge on Old Run Road, near the Engine pub.

"The incident is believed to have taken place between 12.45am and 1.13am after the female victim was approached and assaulted by a male who then made off from the scene.

"Following enquires a 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident."

The road is still closed.
