M62 scooter rider 'surprised' to find nowhere to U-turn and is escorted off motorway near Leeds by police

A scooter rider had to be escorted off the motorway by the police - claiming he was 'surprised' to find nowhere to U-turn.

The 50cc engine scooter was spotted heading east on the M62, towards junction 27 at Birstall, on Thursday.

Officers from the West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Unit (RPU) stopped the rider on the hard shoulder.

The spokesperson for the RPU said: "This 50cc scooter was found heading east on the M62 towards junction 27.

"The provisional licence holder stated he was surprised to find there was nowhere to make a U turn on the motorway."

The rider was issued with a Traffic Offence Report and escorted off the motorway network to safety.
