Leeds United fan Jack Milloy, 14, was on his bicycle with a friend and his little brother when the crash involving a Ford Focus happened, leaving Jack unconscious after hitting the windscreen, at about 6.30pm on March 7.

Jack has been left with a fractured ankle and smashed-up teeth, while his friend's leg was broken.

His mum Nicola Lake, 44, said: "It's any mother's worst nightmare, you don't expect it to happen to your own."

Jack's little brother, Steven, 10, ran to the family home five minutes away in Alwoodley to tell his mum.

Nicola said: "I was making tea and my little lad came home and said 'mum, mum, Jack's been knocked down'.

"I thought he was joking as they're always playing pranks on me, but I could see in his face that he was telling the truth."

She rushed to the scene and cradled her son in her arms.

"I held his neck and put my coat round him and he was shaking and crying," she said. "He thought he was going to die."

The pair were taken to A&E at Leeds General Infirmary.

"They were absolutely fantastic," Nicola said. "He must have had about 20 x-rays on various parts of his body."

Jack is now recovering at home on morphine on crutches.

Nicola added that her "little lad is traumatised by it all", but that she was "so proud of him for running home and letting me know".

Nicola warned people to be careful when out and about near roads.
