Andrew Semple, prosecuting, said public protection officers went to his flat in July 2018 to carry out checks of the defendant's computer equipment and electronic devices.

The prosecutor said Green, who is assessed as a high risk of re-offending, took a long time to answer his door.

Officers asked Green to volunteer all his computer equipment in the property.

The browsing history on the laptop had been deleted.

An officer spotted a hard drive in the property which Green had not given to them.

It contained sexual images of two male children.

Mr Semple said Green then became agitated and said he would not let the officers take the equipment.

He was asked to sign documentation but threw the paperwork on the floor.

Green said: "If anything is on the hard drive it's because it has been formatted at PC World."

Officers returned to Green's flat a month later and seized another mobile phone.

Over 1,000 illegal images were found on the equipment seized from Green.

Most of the images featured boys aged between 12 and 14 but some were as young as five.

A letter from a PC World manager was read to the court stating that the defendant had made the original purchase of the hard drive from the company but that no other work on it had been carried out.

The letter stated that Green had "bombarded" the company with e-mails and phone calls seeking evidence of any work done on it and had demanded that they put something in writing.

Green, now of Brooklands Towers, Seacroft, pleaded guilty to three offences of making indecent images of a child and breaching a sexual offences prevention order.

He has committed similar offences on four separate occasions in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2015.

Judge Simon Phillips QC said: "You have a clear sexual interest in male children.

"At the end of the day, you have no one else to blame for the predicament you find yourself in.

"I consider that there is treatment work that the probation service can undertake with you."

Green was given a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 24 months.

He was ordered to take part in a 90-day sexual behaviour programme and a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

Green was also placed on the sex offender register for ten years.
