Leeds mum jailed over bottle attack rampage

Jade Williams struck the victim twice in the face with a glass she hid in her handbag during the incident in the Leeds city centre bar.

A court heard Williams then hit the victim over the head with the bottle after he had been taken outside.

Williams was carrying a bottle when she approached door staff at the Revolution Bar, on Call Lane.

She had a cut to her head, claiming she had been attacked and planned to get the man who did it.

Leeds Crown Court heard the door staff managed to take the bottle from her but she then approached the victim and hit him in the face with a glass.

The victim suffered a wound just above his eye.

The glass was then taken from her but she managed to pick up another bottle and attack the victim for a third time outside the bar.

After being arrested, Williams told police she had been drinking for seven hours before the attack on December 18 last year.

The mother-of-two told officers: “I intended to do what he did to me, I am not going to lie about that.”

Charlotte Alport,prosecuting, said the victim was not the man who had attacked Williams earlier in the evening.

Miss Alport read a statement on behalf of the victim in which he described suffering dizziness, head aches and short term memory loss as a result of his injuries.

The victim said he now also avoided going on nights out in city centre because it made him anxious.

Williams, of Vinery Mount, East End Park, Leeds, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent.

The court heard she has previous convictions for violence, including an attack in which she punched a woman to the ground before kicking and stamping on her.

She also has convictions for violence towards police officers.

Catherine Silverton, mitigating, said: “It is a very serious offence and she accepts that. It was completely unprovoked, which she accepts.”

Miss Silverton said Williams had a troubled upbringing in which she was subjected to violence and exploitation.

The barrister added: “Those are not things which I submit mitigate this offence itself, save to say that she has a great many issues.”

Williams was jailed for six years, eight months.

Judge Rodney Jameson, QC, said: “There was plainly an intention to cause more serious harm then actually resulted from the offence.

“There was a significant degree of premeditation.”
