Leeds moped robbery: Brazen yobs threaten staff with weapons and steal moped in broad daylight

Employees in a Leeds office building were left in shock after witnessing three males steal a moped after threatening staff with an axe and hammer.

The moped was stolen at around 3.30pm on Tuesday (October 4) and belonged to Rob Dixon, who was working at the Indigo House office building on Sussex Avenue in Stourton when it was taken from the car park.

Mr Dixon told the Yorkshire Evening Post how one staff member went to try and confront the group, who were wearing balaclavas, but was threatened with an axe. One of the men incident rolled the moped away and the other two rode off on mopeds that they had brought with them.

Mr Dixon said: “One of my colleagues came into my office and alerted me to it.

"They had taken off the security fence that borders our carpark to get to the moped in broad daylight.

"It’s absolutely scandalous.

"Someone then ran outside and that’s when they raised the axe.

"He said he wishes he was able to do something but not when they thrash out weapons. He’s got kids and no one’s going to risk injury for that.”

The group were then able to get the moped loose and rolled it out of the carpark and away from the scene.

Police were called and arrived shortly after but have so far been unable to locate the group.

Mr Dixon said: “The whole building was in shock.

"It’s been traumatic. I didn’t calm down until about 8pm.”

Mr Dixon explained that he lives in Bradford and used the moped to get to work.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “At 3.28pm on Tuesday police received a report of three males on two mopeds stealing a moped from the car park of business premises on Sussex Avenue in Leeds.

“The males were armed with hand-tools and warned bystanders off when they approached.

“Officers were deployed to the scene, but the offenders were not located.

“The stolen moped, a black and blue Lexmoto Titan 125, registration PJ20BUU, remains outstanding.
