A Leeds man who had cannabis farm in bedroom at house in Kirkstall avoids immediate jail at Leeds Crown Court

Police discovered 31 cannabis planst along with heating and venilation equipment in a bedroom John Langman's home in Cragside Gardens, Kirkstall, Leeds Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor David Mackay said police also discovered the electricity in the property had been bypassed when officers went to the address on September 21, 2018.

Police also found amphetamine mixed with cutting agents.

Mr Mackay said the street value of the cannabis that could be have come from plants was around £17,000 and the street value of the amphetamine was £5,790.

Langman, 36, was arrested and told officers he had been growing the cannabis to pay off a debt

On April 17 last year, Langman was arrested at his girlfriend's house - which is next door to his own - and officers found cannabis in a drawer.

He admitted it was his cannabis.

Langman pleaded guilty to being concerned in the production of a class B drug, possession with intent to a class B drug, abstracting electricity without authority and possession of a class B drug.

He has 11 previous convictions and four cautions for 23 offences, including possession and production of cannabis.

Rukhshanda Hussain, mitigating, said her client is a father-of-four who was under pressure to pay off a drug debt.

Probation officer Mick Berry said Langman admitted still being a daily user of cannabis whose drug debt is still outstanding.

Langman was handed a 16-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to complete a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
