A man has appeared in court charged over taking an ambulance from outside a Leeds property and driven dangerously around the city.

Peter Sayner, aged 42, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance.

The charges relate to an incident on the evening of Friday, November 25, where a Yorkshire Ambulance Service ambulance was taken from outside an address in Pudsey while staff were responding to a patient inside the property, police said.

It was then driven dangerously around Stanningley, Armley and Bramley for about thirty minutes during which time it was involved in collisions with four members of the public’s cars, causing damage to their vehicles and to the ambulance.

Sayner appeared at Leeds Magistrates Court on Monday and was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court on December 23.
