Leeds M1 crash: Police close four lanes of motorway after accident

Police have closed four lanes of the M1 motorway in Leeds as they deal with a crash.

Traffic officers and the Roads Policing Unit are on the scene between J42 and J43 - with traffic building on the carriageway.

A single lane has been left open to allow traffic to pass, however - according to the AA - the average speed is now 5mph on the road.

'Severe delays' have been reported by the AA.

West Yorkshire Police said: "Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the M1 at 342pm today.

"Emergency services remain at the scene and recovery vehicles are on route to the incident."
