Leeds driver reported and vehicle seized after discovering friend had not insured him

A driver was stopped and reported in Leeds after wrongly assuming his friend had insured him.

The driver was stopped by West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Unit.

Officers said "his friend told him the bad news" before they did, when he discovered he was not insured.

The driver was reported for the offence.

The vehicle was also seized by police.

The roads policing unit tweeted: "Driver stopped in Leeds and assumed his friend had insured him.

"His friend told him the bad news before we did.

"Vehicle seized and driver reported #CheckYourDocuments #Team5"

Elsewhere in Leeds, a man died after being found injured in the street outside a block of flats.

The ambulance service and police were called to Lincoln Towers in Lincoln Road at about 9.30pm on Monday night.

The man was found injured on the road outside the block of flats in Burmantofts and he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “At 9.20pm yesterday (30/11) police were contacted by the ambulance service who were attending a man found injured outside Lincoln Towers, in Lincoln Road, Leeds.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

“A scene was put in place and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.”

Police were also called after two people forced their way into a house in Bramley armed with a gun and assaulted a 29-year-old man before demanding property and stealing electrical goods inside.

Three men aged 32, 34 and 45 and a 26-year-old woman have been arrested after the burglary at a Fairfield Hill home.

The victim received minor injuries during the incident which happened at around 7.30pm on Monday night.
