Known dealer claimed 75 wraps of deadly drugs were 'personal use' after Wakefield stop and search

He was a “third-strike” offender

A dealer already known to police claimed 75 deals of heroin and cocaine found on him was for personal use.

Javid Younas was pulled over in Wakefield and drugs were found on his body after an “intimate” search at the police station, with more found under the seat of a car he was in.

The 42-year-old was jailed at Leeds Crown Court this week - the third time he has been convicted of dealing in Class A drugs.

On the evening of May 15, an unmarked police car saw a Vauxhall Astra on Aberford Road in Stanley, Wakefield, with officers suspicious enough to activate their blue lights.

The Astra turned onto Moorhouse Grove and pulled over.

Officers could see Younas “fidgeting” in the passenger seat, the court heard.

Once arrested, they found a cigarette packet underneath the passenger seat containing 125 wraps of heroin and cocaine.

After being strip searched, Younas gave a prepared statement in his police interview claiming the drugs found on his body were for personal use.

He said he had no knowledge of the drugs under the seat, however, forensic analysis found his finger prints on the packet.

The dad-of-four later admitted two counts of dealing in Class A drugs.

He has 12 previous convictions and was jailed in 2006 for dealing, receiving 40 months. He was jailed for another 40 months in 2010, again for dealing.

Younas, of Farfield Terrace, Bradford, was on a 12-week suspended sentence for refusing to provide a drug sample when he was arrested in May.

Mitigating, Michael Greenhalgh said Younas had been “involved in the use of drugs for a prolonged period”, but had managed to stay out of trouble for years.

He said the financial pressures of supporting his family had led to him using drugs and he became involved in dealing again.

Mr Greenhalgh said having been held on remand at HMP Leeds, Younas had taken numerous courses but found it difficult in prison because he is deaf on one side and has no ear due to a birth defect.

However, he said Younas understood that as a “third-strike” dealer, he faced the mandatory seven-year sentence, minus his concession for a guilty plea.

Judge Anesh Pema gave Younas 1,840 days’ jail, and activated 20 days of his suspended sentence.

At a total of 1,860 days, it comes to just over five years.
