King Charles Spaniel violently killed by dog in Potternewton Lane Meanwood

A beloved King Charles Spaniel was killed by another dog while out on a walk yesterday (Monday).

The one-and-a-half year old dog was being walked at the Meanwood end of Potternewton Lane when she was set upon.

She died within minutes, leaving her family "devastated".

Tess Mentlack posted to Facebook: "At 5pm this evening my daughter and niece were out walking our beautiful King Charles spaniel Mia at the bottom of Potternewton Lane, Meanwood.

"She was then viciously attacked by what is described as a white Pitbull / American bull terrier with a male owner she subsequently died minutes later .

"We are all devastated by this and would like anyone with any information to come forward to the police by ringing 101 and using crime reference number 13210066985, this dog needs to be found before anything happens to anyone else."

Tess told the YEP: "We're all devastated at the moment and just trying to come to terms with it.

"She was my children's pet and loved by us all, she's going to be missed. This was not something we ever expected to happen."

She later updated the post, writing: "It has been confirmed by police that the owner of the dog came forward yesterday evening and is co-operating fully. 101 also received many calls to try and help us.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your kind words and the support you have shown through this sad time.

"R.I.P Mia our beautiful girl x"

It is understood the dog is now in the police's hands.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "At 19.39pm yesterday, Tuesday 9 February, police received reports of a dog that had attacked another dog near to Potternewton Lane, Leeds."
