Killer who mowed down elderly couple jailed again after 110mph M1 drugs chase at Leeds
A convicted killer and drug dealer is back behind bars after a 110mph chase in which he had a car filled with more than £60,000 worth of drugs.
Bags of drugs were hurled from the vehicle as police tried to stop Asif Hussain on the M1 at Garforth.
The 28-year-old has previous convictions for dealing and for causing death by careless driving after a hit-and-run in which he killed an elderly couple in Newcastle in 2019.
He appeared at Leeds Crown Court where he was returned to jail for two driving incidents, despite him being banned.
The first involved him trying to flee police in Bradford in August of last year, when he drove the wrong way up a dual carriageway.
He was arrested later and eventually bailed.

But on December 29, officers on patrol spotted the white Seat Leon travelling in excess of the speed limit on the M1.
They illuminated their blue lights for him to stop, but he continued, prosecutor Emily Thorbjornsen told the court.
His passenger appeared to throw a package from the moving car. Hussain slowed down and a second package was thrown, before he pulled over on the hard shoulder, got out and put his hands in the air.
Officers found £21,000 worth of cocaine in the vehicle. They found the packages that had been thrown which contained another £37,800 worth of cocaine in one and another £3,300 worth of cocaine in another, along with £1,400 worth of MDMA.
The total street value of the drugs came to more than £63,000.
Hussain later gave a no-comment interview to police.
Across the two incidents in West Yorkshire, he admitted dangerous driving, two of dealing in Class A drugs, two of driving while banned and having no insurance and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
He has previous convictions for dealing in drugs, and causing the death of the couple in Newcastle by careless driving, for which he was jailed in 2021 for two years.
Mitigating for his latest offences, Chris Knox said Hussain still lived with his parents on Wingrove Gardens in Newcastle.
He said Hussain was doing the “dog’s body’s work” in transporting the drugs for people higher up the chain.
He said: “He is not even Mr Medium-sized, never mind Mr Big. There was nothing sophisticated.”
Judge Simon Batiste jailed Hussain for five years and banned him from driving for another five-and-a-half years.
