Judge promises to 'hammer' Wakefield robber if terminal-cancer claim is a hoax
A judge has warned a defendant that if she is lying about a terminal-cancer claim, he will “hammer” her.
Malgorzata Holdynska has already admitted robbery of a mobile phone and was due to be sentenced this week.
But the case was adjourned at Leeds Crown Court after Judge Ray Singh raised questions over claims she has incurable cancer.
He said there was no documentary evidence so far following inquiries by probation. He said the only medical evidence they were able to obtain was her prescription for anti-depressant tablets.

Holdynska, of Hastings Avenue, Wakefield, said she has “mislaid” a letter from Pontefract Hospital and had tried to contact them for a duplicate.
Judge Singh adjourned the case until February 27, allowing for further investigations, saying it would clearly make a material difference to the sentence Holdynska receives.
He told the 31-year-old: “If the court finds out you were wrong about dying, it’s very serious.
“The court might come to the conclusion that you are trying to get favour with the judge about something that is not true.
“If you are, I will be more sympathetic, if you are not, I’m going to hammer you.”
He adjourned the case until February 27.
