Lockwood told the officers he was carrying the knife as someone had just tried to stab him and he had taken the weapon from them.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a class A drug with intent to supply, possession of a bladed article and criminal damage.

Michael Walsh, mitigating, said Lockwood accepted he would be given a prison sentence for the offences.

He said Lockwood was being held on remand at Armley jail and was finding the experience frightening due to the coronavirus epidemic.

Mr Walsh said: "He is allowed exercise for a very short period of time but that is in a reasonably confined space with lots of other people.

"The news as it is has not escaped Mr Lockwood.

"But he is the author of his own downfall."

Lockwood was jailed for two years and four months.
