A Pudsey man was quickly brought to justice and jailed for an unprovoked assault that left a woman with several injuries, including a broken nose.

Jamie Freemantle, 40, of Acres Hall Crescent, was jailed within days of the attack, which occurred at his home address on December 9.

He was remanded in custody following his arrest at the scene and appeared at Leeds Magistrates Court last Thursday (December 11), where he admitted to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The court heard that Freemantle subjected his victim to an unprovoked attack at his property, causing her a broken nose and other injuries.

The investigation was launched as an evidence-based prosecution due to a reluctance from the victim to provide statements to the police, according to Sergeant Chris Cahill of the Leeds Domestic Abuse Team.

Sergeant Cahill said the swift prosecution should reassure both the victim and the wider community that Freemantle is now behind bars.

He emphasised the police’s commitment to tackling violence against women and girls, stating: "I hope this prosecution shows it is possible to secure swift justice against perpetrators of such abuse."

He added that the victim now has space to move forward “free of fear and violence”.

PC Steff Hanlon, officer in the case, added: “I would encourage anybody with concerns when forming a new relationship or changing behaviours of their partner to apply for a relationship ‘health check’ by contacting the police and asking for a Clare’s Law disclosure under the Right to Ask scheme.”

Freemantle was sentenced to 12 months in prison after immediately entering a guilty plea at the hearing.
