The 73-year-old let the pair in after they knocked on the window of her home at Chapel Avenue, Heckmondwike last Wednesday afternoon. One asked for a glass of wine while the other used the toilet.

After they left she realised cash had been taken from her wallet.

PC Tracy Boucher, of Kirklees CID, said: “We are asking members of the public who saw these two men or anyone acting suspiciously in the Heckmondwike area to contact the police and help us identify these suspects. Enquiries are ongoing.

“The elderly victim believes the men also approached her home last year asking if she wanted any gardening work doing. We are also reminding people to be vigilant and not to allow strangers into their homes. Always ask to see their identification badge and contact the company they claim to work for.”

The thieves were white and in their thirties.
