'I've chopped her up and put her in the freezer': Hammer-wielding Wakefield partner jailed for attack

Thug jailed for attack on partner as he waved hammer and knife, then made sick comments to her sister.

A thug waved a hammer and a knife about and strangled his partner in a “terrifying” attack when she refused to go to the shop for him.

Mark Lockwood then made sickening comments to her sister, telling he that he had “chopped his partner up” and put her body in the freezer.

The 52-year-old was jailed at Leeds Crown Court after admitting strangulation and common assault.

On February 4 last year they had an argument at his flat on Thirlmere Road, Wakefield, about shopping and he grabbed her by the throat until the point she could not breathe.

After letting go, he grabbed a knife and hammer, and although he did not point them at her, he began striking furniture.

He then spoke with the woman’s sister, threatening her and making the vile comments about putting the victim in the freezer.

Lockwood appeared in court over a video link from HMP Leeds, where he was being held on remand.

Mitigating, Holly Clegg said he had new accommodation in Huddersfield, courtesy of the charity, Fusion Housing.

She said he had a drug addiction at the time but had been clean for 18 months.

Judge Kate Rayfield told Lockwood: “You subjected your then partner to a terrifying ordeal in your home. She was in a flat, effectively trapped.

“I was told you were under the influence of crack cocaine. You chose to be violent because she would not go to the shop for you.”

She gave him an 18-month jail sentence. He was also handed a five-year restraining order.
