Halton Post Office police incident: Machete-wielding masked man threatens staff in attempted robbery

A masked man armed with a machete has threatened staff during the attempted robbery of a Post Office in Leeds.

It happened at about 9.45am today at Halton Post Office in Cross Green Lane.

A masked man wielding a machete entered the shop and threatened staff, but left empty-handed.

He was with a second man who had waited outside.

Both ran off in the direction of Sycamore Avenue/Cross Green Lane, West Yorkshire Police said.

The Post Office has been cordoned off by police as they investigate the incident.

A police spokesperson said: "At 9.46am today, police were called to a report of an attempted armed robbery at Halton Post Office, in Cross Green Lane, Leeds.

"A masked male armed with a machete entered the shop and threatened staff but left empty handed. He was with a second male who had waited outside.

"Both ran off in the direction of Sycamore Avenue/Cross Green Lane.

"Officers are at the scene and enquiries are ongoing."
