Pictures show police outside the shop and a damaged wall attended to by fire crews.

At 2.20pm today, (April 28) police were contacted by the fire service reporting an explosion outside the Londis store, in Wetherby Road, Wellington Hill, Leeds.

Emergency services are currently at the scene, including three fire crews.

Early indications are that a gas canister has exploded in a fire causing damage to nearby properties, police said.

There are currently no reports of any injuries but emergency services are continuing to check the scene.

Both police officers and fire service crews remain at the scene.

Nearby residents likened the sound of the bang to an 'earthquake'.

Many rushed from their homes after the explosion.
