Drug dealer found slumped over her steering wheel in Leeds given further chance

Dealer who has breached suspended sentence order for a third time given further opportunity.

A drug dealer who was spared immediate custody has been given another chance to redeem herself, despite breaching the order on multiple occasions.

Susan Connolly was fortunate not to be locked up in March of last year for selling deadly heroin and crack cocaine. Instead, she was given the maximum suspendible sentence of 24 months.

But she has been hauled back before the courts twice since for failing to adhere to the terms.

The 55-year-old was brought back before Leeds Crown Court again for two more breaches, having failed to attend appointments with probation. She admitted the breaches.

Mitigating, Lily Wildman said: “She knows she is in the unenviable position.

“She accepts the breaches but tells me she has been struggling with depression for some time.

“It got worse after her friend committed suicide, it’s had a significant impact on her.”

She asked the judge to give Connolly a final opportunity, or defer her sentence to complete the order.

Judge Alex Menary agreed and adjourned the case until June 30 and told Connolly: “I want to see if you are committed to completing this or not.

“I accept you have been staying out of trouble. I want you to try and adhere to the order.”

The court heard that she had been found slumped over the steering wheel of a Fiat Punto on Cragside Walk in Hawksworth on January 10 last year.

Police gave her a roadside drug test and she was positive for cocaine.

She had 38 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine on her and over £270 in cash, while her phone contained clear evidence of street dealing.

Connolly, of Larkhill Green, Gledhow, had 40 previous convictions for 76 offences, including breaches of orders.

Connolly was given the 24-month sentence, suspended for 24 months, along with 30 rehabilitation days with probation and a nine-month drug rehabilitation requirement.

The court heard she has completed just four of the rehabilitation days.
