Drivers fined for using phones as police patrol West Yorkshire's motorways in unmarked lorry

Officers stopped 109 vehicles on the M1, M62 and A1(M) last week for committing a number of road traffic offences.
It was part of Operation Tramline, a five-day crackdown on dangerous driving led by West Yorkshire Police and Highways England.

Hide AdPolice patrolled the motorways in an unmarked lorry to spot and film drivers breaking the law.
32 drivers were found to be using their mobile phone behind the wheel or not being in proper control of the vehicle, West Yorkshire Police said
The drivers were all reported for a traffic offence.
Officers stopped 30 drivers for other Fatal 4 offences, including not wearing a seatbelt and speeding.
One driver was arrested for drug driving.
Police seized two vehicles which they deemed unroadworthy and fined 17 drivers who had no MOT or defects on their vehicles.

Hide AdSergeant Steve Suggitt from the Roads Policing Unit said: "Our aim is to make the Motorway network safe for all road users.
"Driver inattention remains a key contributor to the cause of serious collisions occurring on our roads.
"The focus of our operation was to observe and deal with those drivers seen to be distracted whilst driving.
"During our week long operation, we are still shocked by the number of drivers who are prepared to take risks when driving a vehicle, including operating/using a mobile device.
