Driver without licence spotted swapping seats with passenger in M62 services to try to evade police

A driver who had been disqualified from driving was spotted swapping seats with the female passenger in his car in the M62 services - in a bid to evade police.

The man was clocked by West Yorkshire Police officers driving this black Citroen C1 on the M62 despite being disqualified.

He then drove into Hartshead services on the M62 Westbound, where he was seen by police swapping with the female passenger in his car, in the middle of a coffee shop drive-through in the services.

The man then denied having been the driver of the car when he was stopped by police.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "Hartshead Services, M62 West - Vehicle sighted driven by a male disqualified x 2.

"Then in the middle of a coffee shop drive thru in services, driver swaps seats with female passenger and initially denies having driven when stopped .Driver and passenger reported, vehicle seized."

The police can seize a vehicle if they think it’s being used in a way that causes alarm, harassment or distress, for example careless or inconsiderate driving.

They can also seize a vehicle if they think it’s:

being driven by someone who does not have a proper licence or insurance

dangerously, illegally or obstructively parked

broken-down or abandoned

If your vehicle is seized there’s a ‘release fee’ of up to £200 plus a storage fee of £20 for every day or part day.
