Driver fined after van loaded with carrots found to be 20% overweight on West Yorkshire motorway

A driver has been fined after police found the van they were driving on the motorway to be overweight by 20 per cent - because of a load of carrots.

Police joked that the vehicle caught their attention at Junction 26 on the M62 due to the 'number of rabbits on the verge of the motorway watching it pass'.

Officers from the West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Unit found the van to be 20 per cent overweight and loaded with carrots.

They fined the driver and stopped the van until the carrot-load could be spit.

A Roads Policing Unit officer tweeted: "Vehicle caught our attention due to the number of rabbits on the verge of the motorway watching it pass.

"Found to be 20% over weight loaded with carrots.

"GFPN issued and prohibited until the load could be split. #OpsSupport #team3"
