Dangerous Leeds sex offender has prison sentence extended after admitting abusing boys in 1980s and 2000s

Paedophile Kenneth Church targeted the victims during the 1980s and 2000s.

Church is already serving a 19-year sentence for sexual offences against four girls over a 40-year period.

Leeds Crown Court heard the male victims found the courage to report the abuse after Church was convicted of those sentences in 2018.

Church, 56, had his jail sentence extended by a further four years after admitting seven counts of indecent assault and one count of attempted buggery in relation to the two boys.

In a statement to the court, one of the boys, who was abused from the age of 11, said: "I wish I had done something about it a long time ago but I was ashamed."

"I felt like a big weight has lifted off my shoulders. Now he can't do the same to other people."

The victim, who cannot be identified, was first targeted by Church when he was aged 11.

The abuse continued until he was aged 15.

He described how the abuse made him feel sick and affected his education.

The victim said he told one person about it who encouraged him to tell police

The second boy was subjected to abuse by Church when he was aged ten.

The abuse took place in south Leeds.

Church threatened to hurt the boy if he ever told anyone.

The victim told his mother about it when he was aged 11 but she did not believe him.

In a statement, the victim said he is unable to keep relationships due to his trust and anger issues.

He said he trusted Church and now thinks everyone is out to get him and always hurts people when they get too close to him.

He said he did not speak about the abuse for around 20 years, adding: "You can imagine how much anger is inside me."

Church, who appeared in court via video link from Armley jail, did not have legal representation.

He told the court: "I have felt guilty since I put my pleas in.

"I am going on courses to deal with all this.

"I truly hope they will get on with their lives. I apologise to them all.

"Not only have I ruined their lives but I have ruined my own and my own family's lives."
