Council attend astonishing mountain of rubbish in garden of Leeds resident

Police officers and the council's Environmental Action team were called to a garden in the Bexley area of Harehills on Thursday, May 14.

They attended after neighbours raised concerns about the amount of waste left in the garden.

Old sofas, appliances, mattresses and bin liners full of clothes and rubbish were pilled up in the garden.

Following intervention by the police and council, the owner removed and cleaned up a large amount of the waste.

The remaining large items will be removed later, the police said.

A spokesman for the West Yorkshire Police Leeds East team said: "Following community concerns and reports of large scale waste in a garden in the Bexley area of Harehills, Leeds.

"Officers from Harehills Neighbourhood Policing Team have worked alongside Leeds City Council Environmental Action Officers, to address issues raised from the identified address.

"The owner has now removed and cleaned a large amount of the waste and the large items that remain will be removed in due course."

Wetherby (Thorp Arch) and Yeadon (Milner’s Road) sites will reopen on Monday May 18.
