Watch as police rush to M62 after car seen 'weaving in and out of lanes' as driver blows five times the limit

A clip has been shared of police rushing onto the M62 after a car was spotted “weaving in and out of lanes” by concerned drivers.

Numerous calls were made to West Yorkshire Police yesterday morning (Wednesday) over fears that the driver was possibly having a medical episode at the wheel near Cleckheaton.

The driver then came to a stop in a live lane of the motorway as Roads Policing Officers attended the scene. A clip of them arriving as drivers stand out of their cars on the motorway can be viewed above.

A preliminary breath test indicated that the male driver in his 40s was more than five times the legal drink drive limit.

He was arrested on suspicion of driving over the prescribed limit and taken to hospital whilst enquiries continue.

It comes on the third day of West Yorkshire Police’s festive drink drug drive awareness campaign, which aims to urge road users to desist from driving while under the influence.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Throughout December we’re stepping up proactive patrols on the road network. Our message is simple: don’t risk it, and don’t let it be you.”
