Cleaner sexually assaulted woman outside her room at Leeds Bradford Airport Britannia Hotel

Constantin-Zolte Banfi forced himself on the woman while he was working at Leeds Bradford Airport Britannia Hotel, in Bramhope.

Leeds Crown Court heard the 52-year-old grabbed hold of the victim and pushed her against a wall before kissing her on the lips and cheek.

Banfi was given a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to sexual assault over the incident which happened last year.

Ashleigh Metcalfe, prosecuting, said Banfi had been working at the hotel as a cleaner for around five years when he carried out the offence

The defendant spoke to the victim as she was coming out of her room at 8.15am and asked her if she was leaving.

The woman told Banfi that she was not leaving and returned to her room 30 minutes later.

Ms Metcalfe said the woman told him she was not single and felt pressured because Banfi was talking loudly.

Banfi spoke to the woman again as she left her room to go for breakfast.

He asked her if she would spend the night with him and she said "no".

She returned to her room at 10.06am and was in the toilet when Banfi let himself into the room.

He knocked on the toilet door and she told him to go away.

The sexual assault took place as the woman was leaving the room with her bag.

The prosecutor said Banfi pushed her bag out of the way, grabbed her face and kissed her lips and cheek.

The woman went to the reception area to report the incident to a member of staff.

The offence was captured on CCTV footage.

He initially denied the offence during interview, claiming he only spoke to the woman once when he took tea bags and sugar to her room.

The court heard he has no previous convictions but has a caution for outraging public decency in a public toilet in 2014.

Fiona Clancy, mitigating, said: "He is remorseful and accepts his behaviour was not appropriate at all.

"He accepts that he cannot continue to act in this way."

The barrister said Banfi would benefit from work on "sexual entitlement issues."

Banfi was given a 12-month sentence, suspended for two years.

He was ordered to complete ten rehabilitation activity requirement days and 180 hours of unpaid work.

Banfi was told he must go on the sex offender register for ten years..
