A drug dealer had a 14-year-old boy with him in a room at a hotel when he was arrested for supplying cannabis.

Nathan Neesham, 19, was sent to a young offender institution for 15 months over the incident at the Mercure Hotel, Wetherby.

Leeds Crown Court heard police officers went to the hotel after receiving a complaint and found Neesham and the schoolboy in one of the rooms.

Adam Walker, prosecuting, said the officers searched the room and found a number of items linked to drug supply.

Two mobile phones were seized along with a set of scales which contained green residue and a cannabis grinder.

Cash to the value of £625 was also found inside the room.

Neesham, of West Avenue, Wetherby, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

At the time of the offence he was the subject of a community order for possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

He also has a previous conviction for aggravated vehicle taking.

Ashleigh Metcalfe, mitigating, said Neesham pleaded guilty to the offence at an early stage.

Sentencing Neesham,the judge said: "Drug dealing of any sort is a serious matter, but when you are on a community order it becomes much more serious.

"You must have had some idea of the scale of the operation.

"I note that you were in a room with someone who was much younger than you - only 14 years of age - clearly that is an aggravating factor.

"When someone is dealing drugs again, having been given a chance, the only sentence that can be imposed is an immediate custodial sentence."
