Nick Adlington, prosecuting, said Innes was using crutches at the time and struck Lee on the head with a crutch before Jamie Dickinson headbutted him.

Jamie Dickinson, 36, repeatedly punched Lee in the face when he was on the ground and Innes, 40, also rejoined the assault, which was witnessed by neighbours.

Mr Adlington said Lee Dickinson suffered cuts, bruises and a broken nose and was treated in hospital.

Jamie Dickinson, of Belle Isle Circus, and Innes both admitted assault.

The court heard Dickinson also admitted handling a stolen TV between October and November last year after it had been taken in a house burglary.

While on crown court bail awaiting sentence, Dickinson was caught in the integral garage at a house in Belle Isle on October 12 this year.

Mr Adlington said the homeowner received a call from a neighbour just after 10pm to say someone was in his garage.

Mr Adlington said the neighbour and homeowner went in to the garage and the homeowner took hold of Dickinson to stop him escaping and held him until police arrived.

The court heard Dickinson had stolen items including four ceremonial World War Two medals belonging to the homeowner's grandfather.

Mr Adlington said Dickinson had a 'burglary kit' which included a tyre lever and torches.

Dickinson, who has 23 previous convictions for 49 offences, admitted burglary.

Judge Andrew Stubbs QC handed Emma Innes a 12 month jail sentence, suspended for two years plus a two year community order and 30 rehabilitation activity days.

Judge Stubbs jailed Dickinson for two years and imposed a ten year restraining order, banning him from contacting his brother.
