Officers arrived on Bayton Lane in Horsforth shortly after 1pm on Wednesday afternoon (March 3).
They had been contacted by a man who believed he had found a mortar bomb, police said.
A cordon was put in place by officers on the street.

Officers contacted the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team who attended to assess the item and found it was not a genuine device.
The cordon was then lifted by police.
