Army explosives team called to Leeds street after man finds 'mortar bomb'

The Army explosives team was called to a Leeds street on Wednesday after a man found what he believed to be a mortar bomb, police said.

Officers arrived on Bayton Lane in Horsforth shortly after 1pm on Wednesday afternoon (March 3).

They had been contacted by a man who believed he had found a mortar bomb, police said.

A cordon was put in place by officers on the street.

Officers contacted the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team who attended to assess the item and found it was not a genuine device.

The cordon was then lifted by police.
