Ageing Wakefield pervert who dodged justice for 40 years finally jailed

Justice has caught up with an ageing pervert who raped a young girl more than 40 years ago.

Jeffrey Fisher was found guilty following a trial at Leeds Crown Court, along with three counts of indecent assault.

He was handed a 12-year sentence this week.

It was heard that Fisher, who is now 64, had groomed the youngster in the early 1980s in the Wakefield area.

He had been held at a Borstal youth detention home before meeting the girl.

He would walk her to school and convinced her he was her boyfriend.

After he raped her she fell pregnant and was left living alone.

She developed a drug addiction and her child was removed from her care.

In a victim impact statement written by Fisher’s victim and read to the court by prosecutor Andrew Petterson, she said the trauma was “always there”.

He maintained his denials, but a jury found him guilty after his trial in December.

Mitigating, Beatrice Allsop said Fisher had himself been a young man at the time of the offences, having had a difficult upbringing after being abandoned by his mother and being “introduced to criminality”.

Fisher, of Kincraig Road, Blackpool, appeared in court over a video link.

Judge Alex Menary said he was “dangerous” offender, giving him a lifelong sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) and putting him on the sex offender register for life.
