With courts across the land reporting huge backlogs of cases, it’s certain to be another busy year at Leeds Crown Court, with murder, sexual assaults, drug dealing and violence certain to attract long sentences for those found guilty. Here are nine cases of note that will be heard at Leeds in the coming months.
7. Allan Davis
Motorcyclist Allan Davis is charged with causing the death of dad-of-four Robert Baron (pictured) on a Leeds road and will stand trial this year. Davis, age 67, of Abbots Road, Selby, denies killing Mr Baron through dangerous driving following the horror crash on West Wood Road, Bramham, in September 2021. 8. Vitalijus Satilo
Delivery driver Vitalijus Satilo is to stand trial over the death of 63-year-old woman on Leeds street. Susan Taylor was struck by the white Mercedes Sprinter on Park Crescent, Rothwell, in 2021. Satilo was later arrested and charged with causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving. The 37-year-old, of Woodville Court, Wakefield, has formally entered a not-guilty plea. 9. Daryl Moses
Motorist Daryl Moses was told by a judge this week that he faces an "inevitable" jail sentence after he admitted killing a pedestrian on Scott Hall Road in Leeds in April 2021. Robert Stone, 72, was struck by Moses' white Hundai while trying to cross the dual carriageway between the junction with Mexborough Street and Buslingthorpe Lane. 10. Sam Melia
Pudsey man Sam Melia is accused of stirring up racial hatred by making far-right stickers and will stand trial this year. The 34-year-old, of Westdale Road, denies the charge, along with intentionally encouraging or assisting racially-aggravated criminal damage. His trial date has been set for next week, starting on January 15. He is accused of distributing hate material for the white-nationalist group, Hundred Handers, between April 2019 and April 2021, and publishing abusive stickers during that time.
