He was given a 36-month community order, with 65 rehabilitation days, 150 hours of unpaid work and ordered to enrol on a 43-day sex offender programme. Deter was put on the sex offender register for five years, and given a five-year sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) to limit and allow police to monitor his internet use.
8. A relapsed drug addict who pulled a knife on a worker when he tried to shoplift £40 headphones from B&M Bargains has been jailed for almost four years. Desperate Matthew Davies, 42, of Fearnley Street, Featherstone, could have faced the lesser charge of theft from a shop, but it became a robbery when he pulled out the knife – a corkscrew fitted with a small blade – on a staff member who tried to stop him leaving. He was handed a 45-month jail sentence at Leeds Crown Court this week.
9. A painter and decorator who burst into a stranger’s Leeds home and tried to attack him with a hammer concealed in a bag had gone to the wrong house, a court heard. He confronted the befuddled home owner; demanding to know where his workmate was and threatening him with a hammer. Wood, of Brooklands Towers, Seacroft, admitted affray but denied having either a hammer or bag with him. His sentence was adjourned until February 19.
