Couple fundraising for terminally ill Kenyan girl

Little Sharke, 10, lives in a mud hut without running water in Bodo, Kenya, and suffers from skin cancer.

Ashley and Sara Peatfield, of Morley, started a charity to help poorly youngsters living in African villages, like the children pictured here.

The Funzi and Bodo Trust paid for Sharke to have tumours removed from her tongue and face.

But last week Sharke was rushed to hospital after doctors found new tumours.

Now the charity is appealing to people across the area to donate unwanted items to help pay her medical costs.

Mr Peatfield said: “It really costs nothing to save a sick child and most people have something in the cupboard they don’t want and can give.

“This is a true local charity which is run by unpaid volunteers - ensuring money raised gets to where it’s intended.”

People can give unwanted clothes, shoes, bags and books at a special event in Gildersome.

The event on Saturday, which will have an American theme, will feature musical performances from schoolchildren and choirs and refreshments.

It will take place at St Peter’s Church in Gildersome from 10am-4pm.

People can drop off items, which should be labelled Funzi, at the church at any time before the event or on the day.
