Leeds will join a global screening of indie band and 90s favourites The Charlatan’s home-coming gig.

It is in lead singer Tim Burgess’ hometown of Northwich in Cheshire and, in a first for Kirkgate Market, the giant screen in the event space will broadcast the live show at the same time as locations in Japan, Buenos Aries and Barcelona on Friday May 18.

Seven hundred tickets are available for the gig with prize draws and support music from DJ Howling Wolf, Max Lees of the band Twisted Wheel.

Coun Jonathan Pryor, lead member for markets, said: “This is a bit of a coup for Kirkgate so we are really excited to have been chosen to show this massive gig at the same time as countries across the world.

“This will be the first time the event space has been used in this way since we completed the refurbishment so we are keen to demonstrate what an amazing space it is.”

Food and bars trading on the night, include Manjit’s, Fat Annie’s, Banh and Mee, Jenny’s Jerk Chicken, Yorkshire Wrap Co, Mr Mackerel, Istanbul Bakery, Teapot Tea and Coffee, Frizza, BeetleJuice and North Brewing Co.
