Concerns for injured swan trapped for 12 hours in Roundhay Park

Visitors to Roundhay Park are concerned for the welfare of an injured swan which is trapped in a gully near the lake.

The bird was first spotted at 2pm yesterday with what appeared to be a broken leg.

It was seen in the by-wash overflow area next to the park's lake, and was unable to climb the concrete sides of the structure or fly.

A sign on a fence next to the overflow advises anyone concerned about wildlife to contact the park's estates manager.

So far, several Roundhay residents have contacted the RSPCA, but have been able to get confirmation that the swan will be rescued.

It was still stuck in the gully on Friday morning and observers said it had become increasingly distressed.

Leeds City Council are aware of the situation and are looking into it.
