City Buzz: Leeds nightclub celebrates 10th birthday in style

AS THE old saying goes, time flies when you're having fun.

And that certainly seems to be the case as one Leeds nightclub celebrates its 10th birthday this month.

It seems like only yesterday that The Wire arrived on Call Lane but now the much-loved venue is planning its 10th birthday celebrations – with not one but two parties in the pipeline.

The first will be held on Friday, January 29, with three Leeds DJs and producers on the line-up.

Pearson Sound and Pangaea of Hessle Audio – the Leeds label that has helped gain international recognition for artists – and former Wire barman Midland will play throughout the night.

The second birthday bash will be held the following day on Saturday, January 30.

Drum and bass promoters Central Beatz and Overflow will collaborate to host the event, with none other than LTJ Bukem on the bill.

Oliver Walkden, press and public relations assistant at The Wire, said: “Wire has been held in high regard as an outstanding centre for drum and bass music for many years.

“We want to remember this heritage during our birthday celebrations.

“Since 2006, Wire has been a fertile ground for the growth of electronic music in Leeds, a home for the city’s most talented artists.

“The scene has evolved since then, and our club has moved with it.

“We wanted to curate a line up that reflected this.”

Tickets for each of the birthday events start at £8.
