The couple’s sons, Noah and Oliver, were born 14 weeks early in June and underwent blood transfusions at just one-week-old.

They were cared for in a neo-natal specialist hospital in Liverpool for more than three months.

Now at 103 days old and weighing 5lb 10oz each, Noah and Oliver were discharged from hospital and spent their first night at home.

Mr Jewitt, appearing alongside Noah, Oliver and his two other children Isobella and Oscar in a video on the Tigers’ website, thanked the fans for their support.

He said: “We are all made up as a family. I would just like to say a massive than you to all you fans as a whole.

“I feel very honoured and privileged to play for this club and so proud of my boys and how the family have stuck together.

“For me I would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who prayed, wished and did everything they could. Thank you.”

Supporters raised a staggering £2,529.12 at the Tigers’ match with Warrington Wolves last month, which was shared between rapid response motorcycle based charity Blood Bikers and the Liverpool Women’s Charity.

Blood Bikers delivers blood and urgent medical supplies to hospitals and Liverpool Women’s Charity fundraises on behalf of the NHS Trust to enhance the level of care for patients.

The couple said they were grateful for the amazing charity and voluntary work that had taken place in the various hospitals they had stayed in.

A Tigers’ spokesman said: “I am sure we speak on behalf of everyone here when we say, we can’t wait to see Lee Jewitt back on the pitch in the 2016 season.

“It will be an emotional day when Oliver, Noah, Oscar, Isobella and Rebecca come and watch their first game as a family.”
