Bumper bank holiday crowds for Leeds food festival

IT's not too late to savour some tasty treats at the Great British Food Festival at Harewood House.

Today is the third and final day of the festival, which has attracted bumper crowds over the bank holiday weekend.

Great British Bake Off stars Howard Middleton and Luis Troyano have been judging the Great British Cake Off as amateur bakers competed head-to-head in three baking categories.

And today will see Leeds’ own bake off star Sandy Docherty casting her expert eye over the amateur bakers’ efforts.

They have also been revealing their top baking tips on the new Cake and Bake stage including how to get the perfect biscuit snap and how to avoid an uwanted soggy bottom.

Alongside the celebrity chefs, some of the best regional talent have been showcasing their skills from baking tips to fine dining know-how.

Today, Andy Lawson of Bettys Cookery School, Harrogate, will be providing cookery demonstrations along with Afsaneh Kaviani of Afsaneh’s Persian Kitchen, Leeds

And local producers have been showcasing the best in seasonal and speciality food and drink at the festival.

North Yorkshire barbecue champion Tony Smith, who made the final of ITV’s BBQ Champ with Man vs Food’s Adam Richman, is holding regular demonstrations throughout the event.

Also on offer at the festival are children’s cookery classes to give budding chefs the chance to cook up a treat to take home and eat.

A Great British Food Festival spokesman said: “The festival attracts lots of producers showcasing the best in local, seasonal and speciality food and drink and it’s a great opportunity to get a real taste of the best of Great British produce.”

The festival will run from 10am to 5pm today.
